1 glass of wine per day during 5 days versus 5 glasses on one day makes the difference,
whether you put your health at risk or not, in accordance to The British Medical Journal.
It reports about a study that French scientists recently have concluded:
During a period of 10 years, the drinking habits of ca 10.000 men in the French cities Lille, Strassbourg and Toulouse as well as in the Irish city of Belfast were compared. All men were between 50 and 59 years old at the beginning of the studies and they had no heart diseases.
The total amount of weekly consumed alcohol was about the same in both countries. The difference was that most of the Irish alcohol intake was concentrated on Saturdays, while the French would spread it out over the whole week. The result: ca 20 times more often excess alcohol intake (here defined as 50 grams of alcohol per evening), in Ireland compared to France. The study showed almost double as many heart failures in Ireland. Another reason for the higher rates was concluded with the fact, that the Irish were drinking more beer and strong alcoholic drinks, and hardly any wine, while the French had mostly wine.
